There's something fishy going on at Lake Bodom

Bodomin Legenda - Legend of the Lake Bodom (2006)

I had no idea what I got when I bought this movie for a project I was working on. I have to say my first reaction was "what the fuck?". The murder itself was in a small side part of a cold war political satire that was full of weird, funny and wacky characters. But then again I wonder what was I expecting from Tapio Piirainen who made one of the best finnish movies ever Raid. Anyways after the first shock I really enjoyed this flick. The characters were just awesome, Oiva Lohtander almost stole the show as a wacky hypnotist, and the humor was a great mix of finnish redneck humor and black humor. But it's not just a comedy, there's also thriller and drama elements in it too and that's a bit of a problem. It doesn't hold itself together all the time and it looses a bit of it's effect because of that. Also there's tons of goofs in it and really nasty errors, for example you can see the microphone about every 5 mins, also the camera crew get their 15 minutes of fame in reflections and shadows. At points the mistakes actually seemed to fit the picture and a reference to a finnish Plan 9 From Outer Space would have been appropriate, but in the end I'll put my money on the crew just being in a hurry to shoot it and actually not noticing them in time. Anyway they didn't disturb too much as there was so much more to keep you interested. I went to see a thriller flick of a famous triple homicide and I got so much more. Really worth watching and I'm really beginning to like Tapio Piirainen's work.
