Be Kind Rewind (2008)
I had seen two movies from Michel Gondry before, The Sience of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which both were very good in their unique way. So I had some hopes for this one too. Well this one certainly didn't blow my mind. It had it's moments and I loved the idea of "sweding", which has also influenced lots of people to do their own "swedings" you can watch on YouTube. Some of them are simply brilliant. But just like this movie, they're only worth one watch for a few laughs and forgotten soon. The comedy in this one was very uneven, with some really hilarious bits, mostly involved in the "sweding", and then some quite bad wannabe funny stuff. Watching the main couple (Jack Black and Mos Def) got quite painful at parts as you think "come on, no one can be THAT stupid", but I guess that was intended. Also the big story didn't really get any emotions out of me which it was clearly trying. So basically the script around the "sweding" is where this one fails. But as the "sweding" is so brilliant, this is definitely worth the watch.
