This has been one of my
favorites for about as long as I've watched movies. It's brobably the
best war adventure ever made and a movie I find myself comparing
others of it's kind against. And as I'm a fan of Alistair MacLean's
novels and as the screenplay of this was written by him, there's not
much to not love about this. Now there of course are problems with
this one, it's not exactly historically accurate and it does have
some believability issues as it's quite a bit over the top in terms
of heroistic action. So if those are things you can't get over, I'd
suggest looking into other war movies, but if those are something you
can live with then this is one hell of an action packed adventure.
The story is intriguing to say the least, it has a fair share of
twists and manages to pull out surprises even to the last minutes.
Now sure it's a bit far fetched and some of the twists are borderline
ridiculous, but yet it's an exciting thrill ride. Richard Burton and
Clint Eastwood are tough, so tough infact that they could take down
the whole Nazi army by themselves and funnily enough that has never
bothered me, I belive they actually could be so tough. That boosted
with great music and brilliant cinematography makes this an
unbelievably magnificent movie.
