Robert, the serial killer tire

Rubber (2010)

When I first heard about this movie it went straight to my must see list. It's a story about a car tire, called Robert, who has some telekinetic powers that can basically blow shit up. Robert falls in love with a woman and destroys all in it's path to get to her. This story is being followed by a group of people in the desert with binoculars, kind of like watching live theatre. Weird would be an undestatement describing this movie, it's quite crazy. But unfortunately the quite unique ideas don't really carry too far. The joke gets old very fast and as there really isn't much happening in the movie it gets quite boring at parts. There are some nice "what the fuck?" moments to raise the interest from time to time, but they are quite few and far apart. Also the shooting style seemed somewhat amateurish. The excessive use of shallow depth of field got annoying and I guess the cinematographer got lost with his new toy and didn't really think about the viewer. Even though this could have been a lot better, it's still so original that it was worth the watch. If for nothing else just for the curiosity and few laughs.
