Unstoppable (2010)
Denzel Washington seems to become Tony Scott's number one actor as they team up again for the fifth time. That's good as Denzel Washington is a good actor and Tony Scott can be brilliant at his best. Add to that a good story based on real events, hyper active shooting style to keep the excitement up and a great supporting cast and you have a formula of success. Well that formula is this movie's downfall as it really just recycles the old clishes we've seen in all the other nearing disaster movies and just dresses them up to suit the modern day audience. The young and old world views rub against eachother until a nearing disaster breaks the ice. The high level management in a big corporation makes bad decisions to make the situation worse and again rub against the smarter lower level management. A nearing disaster brings families closer and all past grudges are forgiven. The average unsung regular men stand up to save the day and become heroes. All that sound familiar? So yes it brings absolutely nothing new to the table. But it's certainly not a bad movie, you just have to leave your brain outside the theatre and go see one hell of a thrill ride. I was surely entertained, but the movie was way too shallow to make any more impact than just a fun hour and a half spent in the theatre.
