Redbelt (2008)
A friend of mine told me to watch this as it's a different kind of martial arts movie. The trailer said it's a different kind of martial arts movie. And as the director was David Mamet, it surely has to be a different kind of martial arts movie. So of course I went to see a different kind of martial arts movie. And what did I get? A martial arts movie with very little fighting and far from art. It's like any average kung fu movie without the kung fu and just with the cheesy plot. I missed the point of this movie by a mile. And no I wasn't expecting to see a lot of fighting, hell it would have surely been a different kind of martial arts movie if there wouldn't have been any fighting. It was like a rollercoaster in the worst sense. At parts some scenes built up quite a bit of momentum only to fall into the next overly cheesy or too cliched plot twist. And the cast, oh boy, I guess robots would be more suiting term for them. Mere posers with one simple expression. I honestly had to double check if it's the same David Mamet because I just couldn't believe this crap he had made. A pityfull plus for the very few scenes that actually work, the rest is just waste of time and money.
