Speed Racer (2008)
I have to say I'm not exactly the target audience for this movie, but that didn't stop me from watching it. First of all the movie looks stunning, the playful bright colors were pure eye candy. Like watching a candy store gone berserk. But sadly that was the only good thing about this one. The acting is just horrible, the story is predictable with nothing new to offer and the dialog is most of the time so stupid it made me laugh, unintentionally of course. In addition to the bad dialog and the script, which was as thoughtful as a rubber boot, most of the scenes were just direct copies from other movies. The cars with their wacky gadgets going around the crazy cartoonish tracks surely made me go dizzy, but as it had no feeling of danger involved it got quite boring towards the end. The editing is like watching an ADHD kid on crack. And it also has the most annoying kid actor that I've ever seen, with a monkey sidekick to add to that. So it's in no doubt a bad movie. But it's really so bad that it's fun, it has tons of stuff in it from which cult camp classics are made of and all that with a huge budget. I'm tempted to give it five points because I have a feeling in 20 years or so, it will be something special. But to rightfully achieve the cult camp classic status it has to be bashed to the ground when it's released and then praised after a decade or so. And that's what I'm going to do with it, consider it a favour of some sort.
