Zodiac on my mind

Zodiac (2007)

Fincher's take on the Zodiac murders is definitely a different approach from your usual serial killer movies. And that's one of the strong points of this movie. If you're looking to see another Seven, I have to say look elsewhere. This was sticking to the facts and the actual murders are dealt with early on in the film. Most of the focus is on the evidence and on the three main characters, how the murders affect their lives. Luckily the casting is just brilliant, all of the actors are a perfect fit to the character. You actually care about the characters and feel what the murder mystery is doing to them. There's actually not much happening in the movie and as it's two and a half hours long you'd expect it to be boring, but it's certainly not. I didn't even notice the length and actually would have wanted to see even more. The film looks beautiful and the mood is awesome. Strong comeback from Fincher after one miss.

Rest of the David Fincher movies.

Panic Room (2002)

You have a great director, a great cast and a story that should keep you at the edge of your seat. Sounds good on paper, but it doesn't really work. I get the feeling that Fincher was too much keen on testing camera tricks and making the movie look good than to actually try and get something out of the actors and the story. It's a shame as this had tons of potential but now it's just one of those thriller flicks.

Fight Club (1999)

Well this is pretty much a perfect movie. It's brutal, funny, smart, dark, beautiful and it gives you something to think about. Not even mentioning the awesome performance of the actors or the stunning camera work. Instant classic.

The Game (1997)

Don't know why this movie has been left with so little notice. It's actually a great thriller with more plot twists than in a whole season of Lost. It looks great, Michael Douglas and Sean Penn make both solid performances and the mood is right on the spot. Definitely worth the watch.

Seven (1995)

Well what can I say about this. If I had to name the best thriller ever made this would probably come out. Even thou now after seeing it so many times I find Brad Pitt's performance a bit weak at times, it doesn't bring down the mood for a second. Instant classic that works every time you watch it.

Alien 3 (1992)

This didn't really strike the mark when it got released and it has the reputation of being the worst in the Alien series. Sure it could have been way better, but I don't agree on it being the worst. Sure it doesn't match for the first two, but it has it's moments. Of course to begin with they should have left the series alone. But this movie is actually scarier than Aliens and Alien: Resurrection, thou it doesn't come even close to the original Alien. So the horror part of it is ok. It also looks really good. The dark and gritty settings suit it very well. It fails miserably on the characters and the plot. You just don't feel for the characters and the plot is just plain stupid. All in all it's better than Alien: Resurrection, but still far behind the first two and thus quite a pointless sequel.
