So over rated, it took my breath away

Breathless (1960)

I often get criticized for having a mainstream movie taste, that I like what the critics like. Well, can't do much about it, I like good movies. But my opinions don't always reflect those of the critics. This is a movie I always get good conversations going with other movie freaks. Thou they mostly just end up calling me stupid for not getting the beauty of this one. Well it's innovative that's for sure, but it doesn't have a clue on how to use it's innovations. The camera is always present, making it near impossible to fall into the movie. When ever you start to get into it, the camera makes itself noted again. Wether it's some choppy drive, shaky handheld footage or some weird angle. Sure many of them have been perfected later on and yes I understand that a movie gets credit for being one of the first to use them in such effect, but if it doesn't support the story and feels just as it's made in test purpose, it doesn't make it a good movie. Then the story, or the lack of it. There's really not much happening in this movie apart from the very start and the end. So it's really boring to watch. And the characters couldn't have been worse, both of them are quite repulsive and the woman is so annoying I really had hard time to keep me from stopping it. So basically it's a movie where nothing happens and you watch two nobodies talking about, yes you guessed it, nothing. As a test footage I would give it around 80%, but as a movie only 15%. Really one of the most over rated movies I can think of.
15%
