The one that sunk

Titanic (1997)

Don't ask me why, but I had to watch this one again. I mean I was basically forced to. I saw it when it came out so this was the second time I saw it. And here's the review for whatever it's worth. A shipload of stories and one of the most tragic events in the history to tie them together. How the hell can anyone mess it up? Well I guess James Cameron said "forget all that and lets do an overly long cheesy romance around it". And the biggest movie in the whole history until then was born. 11 Oscars and 1.8 billion dollars in ticket sales, no movie had come even close to that amount of money. That's absolutely ridiculous. First of all the story, it's pathetic, the age old story of a love between a rich girl and a poor boy with nothing but overly used cliches to offer. Then the length of the movie, the story would have fit in 90 minutes easily, but it just goes on and on and on and on. I have no problem watching over 3 hour movies if they are interesting, this one surely wasn't. The characters couldn't have been more superficial, the rich snobby girl is mostly just annoying, the dumb poor boy is of course ridiculously heroic and of course there has to be the devil himself in there to mix things up. There's absolutely no one to relate to and feel with, all the characters were pushing me out instead of inviting me in. Then the acting, I've seen better performances in a local children's theatre. I mean come on, an Oscar nomination for Kate Winslet? She spent half of the movie looking puzzled and screaming "Jack!". Not even close to a decent performance, let alone the best of the year. Surely the movie looks and sounds great, but it's like a beautiful apple that's rotten inside. Looks good, but after you taste, it leaves you puking. This movie has now taken over 6 hours of my life and I honestly hope I never have to see it again. It's just not my thing.
