The Expendables (2010)
The plot sucks, the dialog is corny, the outcome is predictable and it offers nothing new to the genre. But that doesn't matter at all. This movie kicks ass! All my childhood heroes in the same movie is enough to get me to the theatre. Albeit two of them are in very short cameo like roles. Add to that the fact that it's very entertaining no brains action with the right kind of take no prisoners attitude and you get my full attention. The first two thirds of the movie is actually pretty bad. There are those few brilliant scenes, for example the scene with Willis, Schwarzenegger and Stallone. Also the beginning was quite good and especially Dolph Lundgren's character was brilliant. Jet Li was surprisingly good in a bit more comic role, though of course he still beats up people, but haven't seen him in a comic role before. The rest of the superstar cast is playing it safe on roles comfortable to them. Around the half way of the movie I got a bit scared that this isn't the action extravaganza I was hoping to see as all the action was kinda spread here and there with chillout scenes in between. Luckily I was wrong. Very wrong. The last 30 minutes or so of this movie is just fucking insane. I mean think of all the Rambo's combined, multiply it with 100 and we're getting close. And just as you think it can't go over this anymore out of nowhere comes Crews with his insane machine-shot-gun weapon of mass destruction. The sheer sound of the weapon was ringing in my ears an hour after the movie and the destruction it did will never leave my mind. This is a movie for men, so be a fucking man and go see it!
