Visions of Light (1992)
Cinematography is a big cornerstone in movies, many times overlooked or most of the time not even noticed. This documentary uncovers the craft in quite an enjoyable way. Starting from the early pioneers of film and ending to the modern masters. The movie selection is quite comprehensive with most of the notable masterpieces of cinematography covered, thou focusing mostly on the Hollywood films. The men and women of the trade give a bit of insight to some of the most memorable scenes in the movie history. Those interviews are of course the backbone of this documentary and the people interviewed are all quite good choises, thou at times they tend carry away just praising each others works a bit too much and not really giving the viewer anything. But that seems to be a common problem to most of the movie documentaries, so it doesn't bother that much. Where it fails to satisfy me as a movieholic is that it barely scratches the surface of the craft and it left me with not much new insight. But for people unfamiliar to the world of cinematograpy, this is a good guide to the basics of the craft.
