The Sunset Limited (2011)
Cormac McCarthy is a brilliant writer. Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones are great actors. Tommy Lee Jones is even a surprisingly good director. Discussion about religion, beliefs, world views and life itself is also interesting. So when these guys go on to those topics, this movie sounded very interesting. Interesting it surely is and then some. Two men in one room talking for 90 minutes might not sound too exciting, but it really is. It's gripping, it's touching, it's shocking and it makes you think, what else would you want from a movie? The performances of the two are absolutely brilliant and the dialog they have is one of the best I've seen in any movie. Sure some of the themes were a bit too much "out there", but still it didn't lose it's grip at any point. I have to warn you that this is not a feel good movie and it doesn't have anything else in it than the two men talking, so if you're the newer generation who wants only action and thrills without any stress to your brain, this is not for you. But if you want to see one hell of a strong drama that makes you think, you can't go wrong with this one. It starts interesting with a bit of a mystery to it, what has happened, why are they talking there? As it goes further it will give you answers but also raise other questions. As you get to know the men you are starting to figure out the dark outcome the movie will have, at this point I thought "oh crap, not good, I know what's going to happen". Well turned out it didn't matter, the end is devastating, it smashes you to the ground ripping out any glimpse of hope you might have still had left. And believe me I haven't spoiled anything with that, you have to experience it to believe it. Now there are a few minor flaws in this movie, mostly in some of the topics they discuss, but they really don't take out the power from the movie so I didn't mind that much. Great movie and a must see for anyone wanting to tease their brain.
