Red Dawn (1984)
Hadn't seen this movie in ages. I remember liking it when I first saw it back in the 80's so I was looking forward to giving it another try. Well unfortunately time hasn't been too kind to it. Basil Poledouris' soundtrack was just as great as I remembered. The acting on the other hand was not. Young Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen are giving us a lesson in over acting and the rest of the cast isn't exactly better. The story is just ridiculous and even though there are some quite nice scenes it's nothing to praise about. But where this movie shines out, apart from the music, is the political view of it. It's cold war era propaganda at it's greatest. And that's what makes it so interesting, seeing how unbelievable the story nowadays seems it wasn't so far fetched for the audience back in the 80's. Despite the flaws this movie is well worth watching just as a time piece of propaganda.
